The trellis is now (mostly) finished – with only the woodland side left to paint.
I’ve painted the trellis in a contemporary black ash to emphasise the forest views. The striking black paintwork brightens the surrounding foliage and gives a sharp, crisp finish. I’ve also stained the decking in black ash to contrast against the relaid grey patio stones.
The colour scheme is heavily inspired by the black Siberian Larch cladding on a house in Essex that featured on Grand Designs. In many of these schemes, the black colour scheme gives a sophisticated edge to affordable softwood cladding.
I’ve also been inspired by sleek modern gardens, such as those by prize-winning designer Ulf Nordfjell.
I also love the stark geometric styles of formal gardens, especially those with Alice-in-Wonderland topiary designs!
